Parents Evening!!!!

Well all I can say is...... what a load of tosh!

I have just sat and listened to my son's teacher and SEN co-ordinator (who could not co-ordinate a p!*s up in a brewery by the way) tell me that he has reached a plato and without "additional" help there is not much more they can do!!!

Additional help??? he has just been turned down for statementing and the LEA seem to think the school should be able to provide what he needs?

So I have a plan of action!!!!! I am going to teach him myself..... not full time but I will look into what he needs to know and I will help him the best I can.

First I will read through his reports, make notes of the areas that he is lacking (including physical stuff) and then I will use visual aids to enourage his learning.

Care to join me? well this is my challenge "help my son achieve level 3c by the end of Year 3"

WE CAN DO IT!!!

And we are back!!

Oh! well!! its been over a month and I have not had the time or energy to write.

I have rethought the idea of this blog and i want to make it as interesting as possible yet fun and easy to understand.  I want to provide information and answer questions whilst also having a forum to air my concerns, fears and needs!

Since I have been away there has been quite as few issues surrounding my sons schooling and over the next few days I would like to share them with you all.

So keep a look out and I will be back posting very soon :)

Thursdays child is full of... attitude!

Today my little man woke up in a mood, "i don't want to go to school its too hard!"
one hour later taxi...school...peace!

Cut to six hours later... on the way home from school and start the task of preparing Alex for a visit. His dad is with us, oh what joy! It's so much easier to do it alone, we never agree on what is best for Alex, it is  always about how hard done he is!

After school Alex had a meeting with a youth worker called john. john works for a charitable organisation called "MacIntyre" that offers a type of support for children  and adults that have special needs in a variety of ways.  From next week he will have two hours one to one time with John and do activities that will interest him away from the norm, allowing me to do whatever i need, or spend one to one time with his brother.
The meeting went well, Alex's dad was feeling uncomfortable and judgmental as always! John sat talking to Alex and they seem to hit it off straight away. Alex was soon getting toys out that he had not touched for years, all of a sudden he was building a helicopter out of meccano!

Overall a success! so i treated the boys to tea out. we went and had fish and chips and they seemed happy enough. Bedtime also seemed more peaceful and no meltdown when I asked Alex to get in bed (even better!)

My little Sonic fan

This is my diary..... well that of my son Alex.

Alex is 7 and was diagnosed in November 2011 with high functioning ASD, sensory processing disorder, and proception dysfunction.  He is also being assessed for various other "conditions" that commonly run alongside ASD.

Alex currently attends main stream junior school and I hope that this blog will act as a record of the trials and tribulations that we as a family deal with and also the issues that he faces on a day to day basis.

Alex has an obsession with computer games, mainly watching you tube to learn how to play different games. He is very bright and caring and can be affectionate at times.  He is very literal and says it exactly how it is.  He has meltdowns and tantrums but he is also funny and helpful.

Yesterday Alex commented to me that he knew he had learning problems so I think we are coming to the point where we need to sit him down and try to explain to him the condition in the simplest way possible.

So I hope you enjoy reading and following us on our journey......
